Team Building and the Benefits For Your Company

It's one of those words that has grown in usage in recent years and "team building" has many connotations.

In the past its utterance was greeted with a collective sigh but times have changed and the fun element of team building is attractive to both staff and companies and its benefits are plenty.

As far as companies go, the importance of team building and team-building exercises is one that shouldn't go ignored.

It's not about the fun and games that comes as an immediate result of the activities involved; from a company perspective team building is for the group skills and bonding that develop as a result.

The aim of team building is to improve motivation and productivity.

Team building events take employees out of the office or their normal working environment, which removes the political and personal barriers as well as removing distractions - no ringing phones or piles of paperwork - to create a more fun and relaxed environment.

The events and fun focus on the main skills that are required for a successful business -

  •  open communication
  •  problem solving

Aim for a balance of fun and planning that increases the morale of a team and gets them working together as one.

With many companies providing team building days and courses, qualified facilitators are key to making the day more successful - teams are more likely to relax and get into the spirit if it's not their boss giving the orders.

One such company is Out The Office.

Out The Office have developed a selection of teambuilding techniques and approaches with games, wacky communication races, blindfold driving and archery amongst the activities available to assess and develop a wide base of skills, including:

  1. Open communication
  2. Building relationships
  3. Time management
  4. Delegation
  5. Problem solving
  6. Planning
  7. Leadership
  8. Understanding how each other works
  9. Shared responsibility
  10. Trust
  11. Creativity and Innovation
  12. Support
  13. "No blame" culture
  14. Change management
  15. Working towards a common goal

Evaluation on the day's activities and results can be as in depth as required.
